Aqua Fitness

If you’re looking for a good all-round form of aerobic exercise why not try Aqua Fitness. Running, jogging and walking underwater in a pool not only strengthens the leg and hip muscles - the quadriceps, hamstrings and gluteals - but helps to develop cardiorespiratory fitness. The upper body also gets an overall workout.

Water acts as a cushion for the body's weight-bearing joints, reducing stress on muscles, tendons and ligaments. As a result, aquatic workouts are low impact and can greatly reduce the injury and strain common to most land based exercises.

Aquacise has been around for many years. It was originally aimed at the over-50 set because it is much easier on the joints than the traditional impact aerobics. Today, these popular classes attract people of all ages and abilities.

The Swim Factory’s heated indoor pools with water temperature at 30°C means you can benefit from our Aqua Fitness classes all year round. Get up and go in H2O!

The Swim Factory offers Aqua Fitness for several levels of fitness, from an easy, gentle pace to a full workout. Everyone can benefit.

  • No need to make a booking, bring a friend!
  • Increases circulation & promotes relaxation
  • Burn off unwanted fat & eliminates joint stress
  • Multi Level Classes
  • No sweat, do it wet! Have a great time!

The Benefits of Exercising in Water

  • Allows full range of movement without strain.
  • Buoyancy in water helps to support body weight and makes exercise less strenuous.
  • Exercise in water eliminates the jarring effect that occurs when exercising on land.
  • The water can act as a resistance and the intensity of the exercise can be altered e.g. by changing depth.
  • Increasing friction by exercising in water can improve the circulatory system and muscle tone.
  • Non swimmers can participate equally.
  • The warmth of the water means the client finds it easier to relax and pain due to muscle spasm is relieved and movement facilitated.
  • Clients can often achieve in water what they cannot achieve on land.
  • Exercise can be aerobic as well as developing flexibility.
  • Psychological benefits include self esteem and sleep improvement.

Class Guidelines

  • You do not have to be able to swim.
  • If you’re pregnant, check with your doctor first.
  • Aqua Fitness frequently helps after an injury. Check with your doctor to get a medical clearance and advise the instructor.
  • Special Groups such as sports teams need to make a booking - a minimum of 12 people per special class.
  • Wear togs and an old T-shirt if you wish.
