Swimathon (Sat) 11 October 2014

Every year the Swim Factory organises and hosts a Swimathon in memory of Harper Hockings, a toddler who tragically drowned in 2008.

Thanks to the support of both the girls and boys Grammar schools in Ipswich, local Crossfit organisations and the generosity of the friends and families of the Swim Factory last year’s event raised over $25,000 for Ipswich Hospice Care.

The 2014 target is to raise $25,000 once again. We are confident we will achieve this target with your support and the introduction of additional events such as a Splashathon on the day. This involves fun and games in the pool for all the family to enjoy. There will also be the celebrity race, Olympic swimmer, jumping castle, food and drink and more.

The date for this years Swimathon is 11th October 2014 – put the date in your diary, it promises to be a lot of fun.

$11 Second Lesson Extended

The Swim Factory introduced a special offer at the start of winter offering second weekly lessons at just $11.00. The idea was to give children the opportunity to develop their swimming skills at a time when many would otherwise be limited in sporting activities due to the time of year. It also had to be affordable.

Due to the popularity, success and positive feedback given by parents of children who have participated in two or more swimming lessons per week, the Swim Factory have decided to make the $11.00 second lesson a permanent fixture.

We know the importance of swimming lessons for babies, toddlers and children. Not only for physical development and that it may save their life one day, but also the development of the academic brain which puts students attending swimming lessons ahead of their peers.

Parents whose children attend more than one lesson each week have noticed a difference in their child’s swimming ability and behaviour.

If you would like to give your child a head start and utilize the special offer, please contact one of the office staff who will be happy to assist.

Consistency is the key for confidence

When a young child who has learnt to enjoy water has extended periods away from the pool, their reaction to starting swimming again is unpredictable.

The return can often be met with fear and hesitation due to the rapid development and behavioural changes the child has gone through since their last swim. Children who swim each week consistently during these early years rarely react to swimming negatively and see lessons as a natural part of their routine. It is proven that swimming all year round ensures quicker progression and results.

We know it’s difficult to speak to an instructor during or in between lessons. There never seems to be enough time. Due to this there is always a Deck Supervisor on hand to answer any questions relating to your child and their swimming lessons.
